State backups: create, download and restore
A state backup restores one mate’s conversations and settings to a saved time. It excludes memory and notes, and you may need to reconnect AI accounts after restoring.
Open the management dashboard → Mate Settings → select a mate → State Backups. Check the selected mate at the top before you continue.
You can create a backup, download it or restore it. To recover memory, notes or the whole host, start with Choose a backup or restore method.
State backups
Automatic backups run daily at 05:30 in the host’s time zone, with a default retention of 7 days. They stay on the same VPS and are short-term recovery points. A host failure may make them unavailable. You can also download a copy to your computer.
Expand Backup Contents to check the scope:
| Included | Excluded |
|---|---|
| Conversations, task state, model and runtime settings, sign-in credentials, persona and identity. | Memory, notes, the program image and general workspace files. |
The file contains API keys and other sensitive settings. Store downloaded files securely. Keep them out of chat, public storage and support-ticket attachments. This is not a complete bundle for moving to another host.
Create a backup
Save the current state before changing important settings. Your mate keeps running. The confirmation estimates 10–30 seconds; the actual time depends on data size and host load.
- Select Backup now.
- Check the mate’s name in the confirmation, then select Confirm.
- Wait for Backup done and check that the list shows a new time and file size.
Backing up… means the operation is still running. For Backup failed, reload the list and check storage using Backup and resource problems.
Download a backup
- Find the backup you want to keep and check its time and size.
- Select Download on that row.
- Confirm that your browser finished the download and that the file is on your computer.
This file saves core state. For the whole host or migration needs, see the backup comparison. Rows marked Legacy can be downloaded but cannot be restored from this page.
Restore a backup
Restoring stops the selected mate, replaces her current core data and starts her again. Conversations, task state and settings after the saved time are replaced. Credentials and AI settings may also return to that earlier state. Memory and notes are not rolled back by this backup.
You cannot undo this action directly from the page. The current data is saved as an inspection copy, which does not guarantee recovery of every item. If you need to keep the current state, create and download a backup before deciding to restore.
- Check the backup’s time and select Restore on that row.
- In Confirm backup restore, check the time, tick I understand this overwrites current data and cannot be undone, then select Confirm.
- Keep the page open while it shows Restoring, please keep this window open…. The page estimates about 30 seconds. This mate’s work and conversations are interrupted during the restore.
- After “Restore complete, container restarted.” appears, check the mate’s status, conversations and settings against the saved time.
- Check authorisation under Connect an AI account. Reconnect if needed, then verify that the primary model is available.
If you see Restore failed, container recovery attempted, or cannot confirm the result after waiting, check the mate’s status before sending another restore request. Contact support if the issue remains. Include the mate’s name, backup time, operation time and an error message with sensitive details hidden.
When the list is unavailable or empty
| What you see | Next step |
|---|---|
| No backups yet (daily 05:30 automatic) | The list loaded and contains no items. You can create a backup now. |
| Could not read the current data. Please reload. | Select Reload. This does not mean there are no backups. Contact support if it keeps failing. |
| Core-state backup is not available for this container | Check the selected mate and use the backup comparison to choose another method. |
| Restore is disabled | Wait for loading or an active operation to finish. Legacy rows only support downloading. |
