Manage Root access: time limits and turning it off
Root access lets a selected mate operate the host. Enable it for a limited time only when needed, check expiry and turn it off after the work.
Where and when
Open Mate Settings → choose the mate → Root Access. Or use her Manage tab → Root access → Settings.
Host package installation or host settings may require it. Ordinary chats, reports and schedules do not.
This mate can read and write host files, including sensitive settings, and install or remove software. Actions may affect the host and other mates. Protection blocks some destructive commands, not every possible mistake.
Enable for a limited time
- Check the selected mate and current state.
- Choose 6, 24 or 72 hours, or 30 days, according to the work needed.
- Read the confirmation, acknowledge the risk and select Confirm.
- Wait for setup. The first setup is estimated at about 10 seconds. Check the enabled state and remaining time.
Access closes automatically at expiry. Check the actual state, not just the selected duration button.
Change the expiry
Selecting and confirming another duration starts the timer from now; it does not add to the old expiry. A shorter duration can still extend access if little time remained. Check before confirming.
Turn it off
Select Off and confirm. Check Disabled afterward. Today may remind you while access is open.
Turning access off or letting it expire blocks new host connections. It does not close existing connections, stop running operations or undo changes. Check any work still running and ask support if needed.
Root access and Command mode are separate controls. Access alone does not approve a particular task.
Records and problems
Access changes appear in System Action Log; see Advanced tools.
If the page requires a Hermes update, read Versions first. Unsupported mates need support confirmation. After a failed or unclear change, refresh and check the state and remaining time; contact support if it stays unknown.
