Connect WhatsApp: pairing, phone numbers and access

WhatsApp connects as a linked device. Run setup in the mate’s terminal, set allowed users, scan with the matching phone and restart before checking a reply.

This guide is for Hermes mates. If your host uses OpenClaw, contact support for the correct setup.

Before you start

The mate must be running with a usable model. You need her terminal. Restarting interrupts her work, so wait for important tasks first.

Number choiceHow to chat
A separate WhatsApp number for the mateMessage that number from your phone. You need access to its primary phone.
Your own numberUse WhatsApp’s message-yourself conversation.

Choose the mode first. Rerunning existing setup may not ask for the mode again; contact support to change it.

1. Open her terminal

Open Mate Settings → choose the mate → Terminal. Read the notice and continue. In the new terminal tab, run:

hermes whatsapp

2. Choose the mode and allowed users

On first setup, follow the prompts for your own or a separate number. Enter allowed phone numbers with the country code, without +, spaces or the local leading zero. For example, a Taiwan number 0912 345 678 becomes 886912345678. Separate multiple numbers with commas.

An empty allowed-users list may let anyone talk to her and assign work. Enter only your number and trusted people, then check the full numbers.

3. Scan the QR code

On the primary phone being paired, open WhatsApp → Linked devices → Link a device. Android starts from the menu; iPhone from Settings. Authenticate if asked, then scan the terminal’s QR code. See WhatsApp’s official steps.

WhatsApp paired successfully! confirms pairing. Run setup again for a fresh code if it expires.

4. Restart and verify

Select the mate in the sidebar → Manage → Container. Select Restart and confirm. When she returns, open Mate Settings → Messaging and check that WhatsApp is Connected.

Send a new message from an allowed number and check her reply. Own-number mode uses the message-yourself conversation.

Change the number or access

Run hermes whatsapp again and follow the current prompts:

ChangePrompt and effect
Pair a different numberAnswer y to Re-pair?. The old pairing is cleared; scan with the new phone.
Replace allowed usersAnswer y to Update allowed users? and enter the full list.
Switch number modeContact support. Repeated scans do not change the stored mode.

Restart as instructed and check status and replies. If prompts differ, send support the version and redacted notice.

Lost connection

Removing the linked device on the primary phone disconnects the mate. Pair again to restore access. WhatsApp also requires use of the primary phone at least every 14 days to keep linked devices signed in. See its official explanation.

If the card remains not set up, check the terminal result and restart. If messages arrive without replies, check AI account problems. Otherwise use Message problems. Telegram offers setup directly in the dashboard.
